| biography:
| Bishop and writer, born in Bordeaux, SW France. He accepted Christian baptism (c.389) and settled in Nola in Italy, where he became known for his charity and his rigid asceticism. He was consecrated Bishop of Nola in c.409, and is remembered for his Carmina and for his epistles to Augustine, Jerome, Sulpicius Severus, and Ausonius. Feast day 22 June. |
