| One of the ‘40 martyrs’ of England and Wales, born in York, North Yorkshire, N England, UK. The wife of a York butcher, she was converted to Catholicism in 1574. She harboured priests in her home, for which she was tried and condemned to death. She was executed by being crushed to death under a large weight. She was canonized in 1970; feast day 25 March. |
