| biography:
| Priest, educational reformer, and philanthropist, born in Reims, NE France. He set up schools for the poor, reformatories, and training colleges for teachers, and was the founder in 1682 (with 12 others) of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, known as the Christian Brothers (L'institut des frères des Écoles Chrétiennes). He was canonized in 1900; feast day 7 April. |
