| Ecclesiastic, encyclopedist, and historian, born either in Seville or Carthagena, Spain. Archbishop of Seville in c.600, his episcopate was notable for the Councils at Seville (618 or 619) and Toledo (633). A voluminous writer, his most influential work was the encyclopedia Etymologies. He was canonized in 1598; feast day 4 April. |
