| biography:
| Abbess and mystic, born in Böckelheim, SC Germany. Educated in a Benedictine convent, she experienced visions from childhood, many of which were considered authentic and recorded. In c.1147 she founded her own convent. Her many writings include works on medicine and natural history, and she also composed poetry and music, and invented a language. Though never formally canonized, she is often listed as a saint, and has her own feast day (17 September), especially recognized in Germany. |
