| biography:
| Clergyman, born probably in N France. Educated at the Abbey of Lerins, he became Bishop of Arles in 429, and presided at several synods, especially that of Orange in 441, whose proceedings involved him in a serious controversy with Pope Leo the Great. He wrote a life of St Honoratus, which is still extant. Feast day 5 May. |
