| Bishop and theologian, born in Cappadocia, Asia Minor. Educated at Caesarea, Alexandria, and Athens, he became a close friend of Basil the Great, and was made Bishop of Sasima, but withdrew to a life of religious study at Nazianzus. Feast day 2 January (W), 25 or 30 January (E). |
