| Abbot, born near Glastonbury, Somerset, SW England, UK. Educated at the abbey of Glastonbury, he became a monk there, and was appointed abbot in 945. He began a great work of reformation, making the abbey a centre of religious teaching. An adviser to King Edmund, he later became Bishop of Worcester (957) and of London (959), then (under King Edgar) Archbishop of Canterbury (960). Feast day 19 May. |
