| Clergyman, born in Cologne, W Germany. The brother of Otto I, the Great, he was imperial chancellor in 940, and in 953 crushed a rebellion against Otto. He became Archbishop of Cologne in 953, and Duke of Lorraine in 954. He was distinguished both for piety and learning. Feast day 11 October. |
