| biography:
| British or Irish monk. He settled in Rome c.400, where he disputed with St Augustine on the nature of grace and original sin. His view that salvation can be achieved by the exercise of human powers (Pelagianism) was condemned as heretical by Church Councils in 416 and 418, and he was excommunicated and banished from Rome. Nothing more is known of him after that date. |
