| biography:
| Anglo-Saxon scholar and clergyman. He studied at Malmesbury and Canterbury, and became the first Abbot of Malmesbury c.675, and the first Bishop of Sherborne in 705. A great scholar, he wrote Latin treatises, letters, and verses, as well as some English poems that have perished. Also a skilled architect, he built several churches and monasteries. Feast day 25 May. |
