| Chronicler, born in Hexham, Northumberland, NE England, UK. A Cistercian monk (later abbot) at Rievaulx Abbey, he was a friend and adviser to both David I of Scotland and Stephen of England, and wrote a vivid Latin account of the battle between them at Northallerton, Yorkshire (1138). Feast days 12 January, 3 March. |
