| Christian saint, born in Assisi, C Italy, the daughter of Count Favorino Scifi and the younger sister of St Clare. In 1211, she joined her sister in a convent, co-founding the order of the Poor Ladies of San Damiano (Poor Clares). In 1219 she became abbess of a newly established community of the order at Monticelli. |
