| biography:
| Golf-course architect, born near Ince, Cheshire, NW England, UK. He went to the USA in 1911, and studied at Cornell University (1927–30). In 1930–40 he worked in partnership with the Canadian architect, Stanley Thompson, and then on his own. He designed more than 400 of the world's outstanding golf courses and wrote Great Golf Stories, Golf's Magnificent Challenge (1988). His son, Robert Trent Jr, worked in the same field, designing more than 100 golf courses. |
