| biography:
| Painter, born in Epsom, Surrey, SE England, UK. He studied at the Slade School of Art, London, during its most creative period (1896–9), and joined the New English Art Club in 1909. He was a founder member and first president of the Camden Town Group (1911), and became a member of the London Group in 1913. He met Sickert in Dieppe in 1904, and was inspired to paint theatre and music hall subjects, using a quasi-Pointilliste technique learnt from Lucien Pissarro. |
