| Electress of Hanover, born in The Hague, The Netherlands, the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Stuart (daughter of James I of England) and Frederick, Elector Palatine, also elected King of Bohemia (1618). In 1658 she married Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, who became the first Elector of Hanover. Her son George, Elector of Hanover, became George I of Great Britain. Named in the Act of Settlement (1701) as the Protestant successor to the English crown after Anne, she died shortly before the queen. |
