| biography:
| Chinese diplomat and financier, born in Shanghai, E China. He studied at Harvard. His sister Song Qingling (c.1892–1981) married Sun Yatsen, and through this Song became closely associated with the Nationalist Party. He provided the financial stability which made possible the 1926 Northern Expedition that reunited China under the Nationalists. A second sister, Song Meiling (1897– ) married Jiang Jieshi in 1927. Song served as finance minister of the new government until 1931. When the Nationalist government was overthrown in 1949, he moved to the USA. A film made in Hong Kong, The Soong Sisters, was released in 1997. |
