| Playwright, novelist, and theatre producer, born in Whitefield, Greater Manchester, NW England, UK. Educated in London, she studied at the Royal Academy of Drama and Art. She started as an actress, but turned to writing, producing such successful plays as Dear Octopus (1938). She is also known for her children's book The Hundred and One Dalmatians (1956), made into a popular Disney cartoon film (1961) and revived as a ‘live’ action film (1996). |
