| Pope (1471–84), a former Franciscan preacher, born in Cella Ligure, NW Italy. He fostered learning, and built the Sistine Chapel and the Sistine bridge. His nepotism led to many abuses, and he is said to have been involved in the Pazzi conspiracy against the Medici at Florence. |
