| Racing motorcyclist, born in Barcelona, NE Spain. The first contest in which he took part was the Copa Bultaco Streiker (1979). He divided his time after this between participating in motorcycling events and pursuing his studies in architecture. He was placed seventh in the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix, and third in the 1982 Finnish Grand Prix, which placed him fifteenth in the world championship. He won his first victory in Spain (1985). Three further successes placed him fourth in the final classification. After moving over briefly to 500cc machines (riding for Suzuki), he returned to 250cc, came second in the 1986 World Championship, third in 1987, and finally winner of the world title in 1988. |
