| Poet and educator, born in Cumberland, Wisconsin, USA. Joining the Sisters of the Holy Cross (1908), she earned a doctorate in English from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles (1925) and was president of St Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN (1934–61). A mediaeval scholar, she won distinction for her literary essays and poetry. |
