| biography:
| Artist and illustrator, born in Edinburgh, EC Scotland, UK, the son of Francis Wighton Flint, a water colour artist and designer. He studied at the Royal Institution School of Art in Edinburgh, then became an apprentice draughtsman at a large printing works in the city. In 1900 he moved to London, where he worked as a medical illustrator, recording injuries sustained in the Boer War. He then joined the Illustrated London News as an art illustrator (1903–7). After naval service in World War 1 he returned to Scotland, working as a freelance artist and becoming well known for his lithographs. He was knighted in 1947. |
