| Hydro-electric engineer, born in Nelson, New Zealand. After service in World War 1, he worked for five years on hydro-electric schemes in New Zealand, then worked in Australia until 1930. He was in charge of the Galloway hydro-electric scheme in Scotland (1931–7) before returning to Sydney, eventually to head the Metropolitan Water Board. He then became commissioner of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority Scheme (1949–67), a mammoth engineering project which through his leadership was completed ahead of schedule in 1973. |
