| Soldier and statesman, the nephew of King Robert I of Scotland, who created him Earl of Moray. He recaptured Edinburgh Castle from the English (1314), commanded a division at Bannockburn, took Berwick (1318), won the victory of Mitton (1319), reinvaded England (1320, 1327), and was guardian of the kingdom after the death of Bruce in 1329. |
