| Australian politician, born at Norton Summit, South Australia. He served with the Australian Imperial Forces during World War 1 at Gallipoli and in France. In 1933 he was elected to the South Australian House of Assembly, entering the ministry in 1938 and becoming premier of South Australia the same year. He remained premier until 1965, and was knighted in 1957. |
