| British naval officer, born in Portisham, Dorset, S England, UK. He was closely associated with Nelson, whom he served as flag-captain at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805). He was First Sea Lord (1830), and from 1834 was governor of Greenwich Hospital. He was promoted vice-admiral in 1837. |
