| Golfer, born in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, NW England, UK. Educated at Alleyn's School, he became a professional golfer, and won the British Open Championship (1934, 1937, and 1948). He played in the Ryder Cup against America four times between 1929 and 1953. In his latter years he ran a golf complex in Portugal, and was much in demand as a teacher and consultant. |
