| Physician, born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. He studied at Cambridge, London, and Paris universities, practised medicine at Leeds, and became professor of medicine at Cambridge in 1892. In 1867 he introduced the short clinical thermometer. He wrote many medical works, especially on the heart and on the history of medicine. |
