| British publisher, the chairman of the firm of George Allen and Unwin, founded in 1914. He studied the book-trade in Germany. An international figure in publishing, he was president of the Publishers Association of Great Britain (1933–5) and president of the International Publishers Association (1936–8, 1946–54). His books include an autobiography, The Truth about a Publisher (1960). |
