| Antiquary, born in Arbury, Warwickshire, C England, UK. He was MP for Middlesex (1741–77) and Oxford University (1750–80). He built up a famous collection of antiquities, and endowed the Newdigate Prize for English verse at Oxford, winners of which have included John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Laurence Binyon, and John Buchan. |
