| Poet and courtier, born in Kinaldie, near St Andrews, Fife, E Scotland, UK. He studied at St Andrews University and in Paris, and became a courtier of James I in London. He wrote lyrics in English and Latin, and is credited with the prototype of the song ‘Auld Lang Syne’. |
