| Pioneer of passenger flight, born in Inglewood, Victoria, SE Australia. He opened a regular air service to Melbourne in 1936, and by 1957 had formed the largest private transport system in the S hemisphere, with a country-wide network of air and coach services. In 1979 Ansett's group was taken over by a consortium of Rupert Murdoch's News Ltd and Sir Peter Abeles' TNT. |
