| Artist, born in Dartford, Kent, SE England, UK. From the mid-1950s, while still a student at the Royal College of Art, he became a pioneer of the Pop Art movement in Britain, using media imagery from sources such as comics, advertisements, and popular magazines. His most widely known work is the cover design for the Beatles' LP Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). In 1980 he became a member of the Royal Academy. He received a knighthood in 2002. |
