| Fashion designer and court dressmaker, born in London, UK. He studied at Cambridge, then started his own business in 1923, receiving the Royal Warrant in 1940. He was president of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers (1946–56). His work included costumes for leading actresses, wartime ‘utility’ dresses, the Women's Royal Army Corps uniform, and Princess Elizabeth's wedding and coronation gowns. He was knighted in 1977. |
