| British designer and writer on design, born in Baku, Russia (now Baki, E Azerbaijan). Trained as an architect, his early work was mainly in commercial exhibition design. He designed the famous pre-World War 2 cafes for Kardomah, becoming a consultant for the firm (1936–50). His outstanding post-war design work was for British Rail, London Transport, and P & O. He later became professor of industrial design at the Royal College of Art, London (1959–75). |
