| biography:
| British writer, journalist, and broadcaster. He studied at Oxford, became a journalist for the BBC (1970–3), and from 1973 worked as a freelance journalist and broadcaster, covering conflicts in many parts of the world, including the S Atlantic (1982). He has made a number of television documentaries, including Cold Comfort Farm (1985) and We Are All Green Now (1990). He became editor (1986) and editor-in-chief (1990) of the Daily Telegraph, and editor of The Evening Standard (1996). He received a knighthood in 2002. |
