| Clergyman, born in Tasmania, Australia. He studied at Sydney University, and was ordained in 1935. He was vice-principal (1939–53) and principal (1954–8) of Moore Theological College, Bishop-Coadjutor (1958–66) and Archbishop (1966–82) of Sydney, later serving also as Primate of the Anglican Church in Australia (1978–82). |
