| biography:
| Newspaper publisher, born in Montreal, Quebec, SE Canada, the son of the 1st Lord Beaverbrook. He established a reputation as a socialite before the war, but served with great distinction as a fighter pilot. He became a Conservative MP for Holborn (1945–50), then joined his father in running Beaverbrook Newspapers (the Daily Express and the Sunday Express). They had frequent disagreements. When Lord Beaverbrook died in 1964, Max renounced his claim to the barony but retained his father's baronetcy. He became a leading ocean-racing skipper, and promoted offshore powerboat racing and motor racing. |
