| Architect, born in Goring, Oxfordshire, SC England, UK. He trained in London, visited Italy (1777–80), held several government posts, and became professor of architecture at the Royal Academy (1806). His designs include the Bank of England (1792–1833, now rebuilt), and Dulwich Picture Gallery (1811–14). His house at Lincoln's Inn Fields has become a museum. |
