| Economist, born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, C England, UK. He studied at Oxford, taught at the London School of Economics (1926–35), and was professor of political economy at Manchester (1938–46) and Oxford (1952–65). He wrote a classic book on the conflict between business-cycle theory and equilibrium theory (Value and Capital, 1939), and other works include A Theory of Economic History (1969) and Causality in Economics (1979). He shared the 1972 Nobel Prize for Economics. |
