| Businessman, born in Eccles, Greater Manchester, NW England, UK. He founded Littlewoods football pools in 1923, distributing 4000 coupons by hand in Liverpool. Following a visit to America, he established a mail-order business in Britain (1932), and opened the first store in the Littlewoods chain in 1937. When Liverpool Polytechnic was awarded university status in 1992, it took the name of Liverpool John Moores University. |
