| biography:
| Industrial executive, born in Coventry, West Midlands, C England, UK. He studied at Imperial College, London, and the London Business School. In 1968 he entered the motor industry, first with General Motors, then with British Leyland and Massey Ferguson. In 1980 he became chairman and chief executive of the then ailing Jaguar company, and restored the company's high reputation in Britain and abroad. He was knighted in 1986. |
