| biography:
| Fashion designer, born in Gibraltar. His family moved to London when he was six, and he studied at East London College and St Martin's School of Art. He then set up a studio in London, and quickly established himself, receiving the British Fashion Council Designer of the Year Award in 1987. After setting up a studio in Paris in 1994, he again won the British Designer Award (1994, 1995), and after a period with Givenchy became designer-in-chief at Christian Dior in 1996. He received a knighthood in 2001. |
