| biography:
| Astronomer, born in Hanover, NC Germany, the sister of Sir William Herschel. In 1772 she joined her brother in Bath, SW England, UK. Acting as his assistant she did many of the lengthy calculations relating to his observations, and made independent observations, discovering eight comets and several nebulae and clusters of stars. She gave the Royal Society a list of amendments to the British Catalogue in 1798, and published a catalogue of 2500 nebulae and star clusters after her return to Germany (1822). |
