| biography:
| Motorist and aeronaut, born in London, UK. He studied at Cambridge, and from 1895 experimented with the earliest motor cars, forming a partnership with Henry Royce in 1906 for their production. In 1906 he crossed the English Channel by balloon, and in 1910 made the first return crossing by aeroplane. Soon afterwards, he died in a flying accident, the first British pilot to do so. |
