| biography:
| Composer, born in London, UK. The daughter of Sir Edwin Lutyens, she studied in Paris and at the Royal College of Music. She was one of the first British composers to adopt the 12-tone technique, notably with the Chamber Concerto No 1 (1939). Her chamber opera Infidelio (1954) and cantata De Amore (1957) were not performed until 1973, but she then became accepted as a leading British composer. Her work includes the chamber opera The Pit (1947), Quincunx (1959), and Vision of Youth (1970). |
