| Poet and journalist, born in Gravesend, Kent, SE England, UK. He taught at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and in 1856 became principal of Deccan College, Pune (Poona). Returning in 1861, he became editor of the Daily Telegraph in 1873. He is best known for The Light of Asia (1879), on Buddhism. |
