| Agriculturist, born in Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, SWC England, UK. He studied chemistry at Manchester, then became interested in agricultural science. In 1912 he was appointed director of the Rothamsted Experimental Station, and contributed to its rising status. He published his classic Soil Conditions and Plant Growth in 1912. |
