| Newspaper proprietor, born in Sydney, New South Wales, SE Australia. He became a cadet reporter on his father's Daily Guardian (1923), and established the magazine Australian Women's Weekly (1933). The success of the magazine led to the formation of the Australian Consolidated Press group, publishers of the Sydney Daily Telegraph (sold to Rupert Murdoch in 1972), The Bulletin magazine, and television and radio interests. |
