| biography:
| British politician and lawyer, the brother of Hugh and Michael Foot. He studied at Oxford, where he was president of the Liberal club (1927) and of the Union (1928). He was Liberal MP for Dundee (1931–45), joined the Labour Party in 1956, and became MP for Ipswich (1957–70), and solicitor general (1964–7). He became a QC in 1954, and was knighted in 1964. |
